Bottom Brackets
When SKF decided to produce a bicycle bottom bracket, they started by gaining an understanding of the unique demands placed on bicycle bottom brackets. In the process, SKF found plenty of room for improvment in the reliability, durability and all-round-performance of this most critical part of any bicycle drivetrain. SKF put their industry-leading expertise and experience to work to design a complete line of bottom brackets that provide truly exceptional durability, outstanding value, and reasonable weight.
In the 20 years since SKF introduced their first bottom bracket unit, this product has since become a standard feature in many high quality bicycles. When you're ready for true durability and performance at a reasonable weight and price, SKF is your best choice!
SKF produces bottom bracket units in the two most popular interfaces, ISIS and Square Taper.
ISIS-Drive
The ISIS Drive interface between spindle and crank arm offers direct power transmission and an absolutely secure fit between the crank arm and bottom bracket spindle. The larger surface area of the ISIS spindle offers a larger contact area between the crank arms and spindle, which equates to a stiffer, more secure interface. As an accepted standard, the ISIS design allows for great freedom in designing both optimized cranks and bottom bracket units. The ISIS design enables the discerning rider to combine crank arms and bottom brackets from different manufacturers to create the ultimate customization for each rider's needs.
JIS Square Taper
One of the original standards for bottom bracket spindle/crank iterfaces, many bikes are still equipped with the JIS square interface. Square Taper bottom brackets are often preferred by single speeders for the durability and reliability of the design. The JIS is a long-accepted standard for durable bottom bracket interfaces, and some high-end aftermarket cranksets are only available in the Square Taper bottom bracket style. Like the ISIS standard, JIS Square Taper enables the use of different manufacturer's crank arms and bottom brackets for the ultimate in customization to each rider's needs.
