Welcome to A.O.R.T.A (Appalachian Off-Road Tandem Adventure), the Second in a series of annual off-road tandem rallies for enthusiats who enjoy the occasional weekend of riding and socializing with great folks on great trails.

The 2011 A.O.R.T.A. will take place at Bent Creek Trails, in Asheville, North Carolina. We had such a good time at Bent Creek, we're going back again for 2011's event. Bent Creek trail system offers something for virtually everyone, from easy forest roads to technical singletrack. There's enough single- and double-track to keep almost everyone busy for 2-3 days of riding. For 2011, we're adding a ROAD TRIP on Saturday to experience the excellent trails at DuPont State Forest.

We expect tandem teams from all over the US.

SCHEDULE: Friday night, Saturday and Sunday -- May 13-15, 2011 -- are the "official" days of the event. However, many teams will be arriving early and/or staying late, so there should be folks to ride with for several days around the event weekend. The days will be filled by riding some great trails, lots of socializing and story telling, ogling the latest demo tandems and equipment courtesy of MTBTandems.com, and other wise having a great time with other folks who enjoy this wonderful sport!

REGISTRATION: Event participation is limited to first 30 teams to submit paid registrations. The basic registration cost for this year's rally is $150.00 per team. Please note: lodging is NOT included in the registration fee. A detailed break down of what's included in the registration fee, along with payment instructions and terms and conditions for refunds can be found on our Registration page by clicking HERE.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Three options for accommodations are available for the weekend:

  • Bent Creek Lodge: Many AORTA attendees enjoy the beauty and hospitality of Bent Creek Lodge, just a quick spin from the trail system. Bent Creek Lodge is a beautiful & luxurious Bed & Breakfast Inn located VERY close to the trails. In fact, those staying at the lodge may be able to ride directly to the trails from the lodge. You'll also find convenient spots to park your tandem at the lodge, so no worries about bringing tandems to your rooms at night. Come on, a B&B for tandem mountain bikers? Hey, let's see how the other half lives! Contact Jodee or Doug for information on room availability at 828-654-9040 or visit their Web site for more information: http://bentcreeknc.com/ . Be sure to mention AORTA 2011 to receive a discounted rate!
  • Other Lodging: There are other motel options in the vicinity available. For a complete list, please email us.
  • Camping: For those who prefer to camp or RV, the Lake Powhatan Campground is located at the trail system, enabling you to ride right from your campsite. There are several teams that will be camping for the weekend.

NEED AN OFF-ROAD TANDEM? MTBTandems.com will have a limited # of demo/loaner tandems available for teams who don't have a tandem yet, or won't have their tandem with them! If you're interested in demo'ing a tandem for the weekend, just email us with your team size and tandem brand preference. Demo tandems are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, so let us know soon if you need one. And yes, demo tandems are certainly for sale (after all, we are in the tandem business...)
