Brake Systems

No component is more important to the performance and safety of an off-road tandem than the brake system. Tandem brakes have to be able to control the speed of of two persons and one big bike, and do so in all sorts of conditions. Hydraulic brakes and Disc brakes are ideal for tandems, but they must be heavy-duty designs that can stand up to the additional heat build-up and loads of tandeming. After all, it's no good to go fast if you can't stop fast too!

Hope Technologies - Mono6 Disc Brake

The Mono6 has been developed to be the ultimate in braking technology. It is first bicycle disc brake to feature titanium pistons fitted into a state of the art 6 piston, one-piece caliper. Titanium, as well as being light and very durable, is one of the best materials for insulating the caliper from the heat generated in the pads and disc. The pistons are also coated with titanium nitride to reduce friction with the seals. The single design of caliper uses different brackets to fit current frames and forks. It also uses the Mini lever.

 Hope Technologies - Enduro 4

The new Enduro 4 replaces the successful DH4. Even though the brake has been slimmed down and lost over 60g in weight it still retains its awesome braking power. The caliper features 4 pistons operating 4 separate pads and is supplied with a pro lever. The brake is an open system. The 74mm post mount (200/1 Manitou) requires a special bracket and larger disc. This brake can be used for all types of riding from hard cross-country through to world cup downhill racing, as it is not affected by temperature changes.
